It all started when...

Craig Mayhew is a Dayton, Ohio, native who was born and raised in the residential construction business. He attended Wright State University where he earned his Bachelors degree from the College of Science & Engineering. Following graduation, Craig spent time in industrial construction management negotiating for Fortune 100 companies from coast to coast. His time in the construction business took him all around the country. Craig frequently bought and sold homes to flip on the side and in 2004 he received his real estate license. He began his real estate career in his hometown, Dayton, Ohio, before moving to Columbus. Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Professional Realty welcomed Craig to the Grandview Heights office in July of 2017. Craig resides in Grandview, Ohio, where he specializes in seller and buyer representation. Craig also has years of experience in contract negotiation and residential construction.

Professional Q&A

How did you become interested in a real estate career?

“Real estate was a natural stint for me. I enjoyed the idea of working for myself and I already had a background in negotiating contracts from my time in construction. My familiarity with real estate by flipping houses on the side made the career change appealing because I did not have to travel as much as I used to.”

 

Why Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Professional Realty?

“When I joined BHHS Professional Realty in 2017, the Grandview location was fairly new and it’s close to home. I chose to work for the brokerage due to the relocation and referral opportunities, great name recognition, the professional materials I was provided and the in-depth training. My experience with BHHS Pro has been everything that it was promised to be.

 

How do you maintain work life balance being a realtor while still being available to your clients?

“I have to say the market in these last two years has been insane. I use many different outlets to maintain a healthy balance. I enjoy being outside skiing, kayaking and laying by the beach. I also try to make time in my day to exercise at the gym. There are exceptions to every rule, but I typically monitor my phone usage by being available to clients when they need me and allowing myself personal time late at night and early in the morning.”

 

What is one thing you believe every house must have?

“Every house must have a fireplace. I cannot imagine myself buying a home without one.”

 

What advice do you have for homebuyers in their search for the perfect home?

“I have a long list of advice for homebuyers in the market we have seen this past year. Most importantly, homebuyers need to act fast. If you see something you like, go look at it. If you can’t all come, send one homebuyer to preview the home. Also, if you can get out to walk through homes during the week, do it. You have to shop when others aren’t shopping.”

Why Columbus, Ohio?

Columbus, Ohio, is a small major city. It’s full of great food, great art, sports, entertainment and it’s accessible both geographically and financially.

 

What is your favorite space in a home?

A den or a family room with a bar

 

Your ideal vacation getaway spot?

I love it anywhere out West like Colorado or Utah. I also enjoy getting away to Florida.

 

What do you enjoy doing in your freetime?

I enjoy exercising, reading and listening to live jazz music.

 

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

I would get my pilot’s license
